The impact of the 18th Edition

The 18th edition of the wiring regulations will be made public in July 2018. The BS7671 wiring regulations are written by the IET (The Institution of Engineering and Technology) setting out standards for electrical installations in the UK.

Once the new 18th edition wiring regulations are issued electricians will have six months to get up to speed with the changes. During that time electricians will be able to design, install and certify to either the 17th or 18th edition standard.

It is only from January 2018 that all new electrical installations will have to comply with the updated regulations.

The IET has previously released a draft of the new 18th Edition Wiring Regulations for public comment. A committee of experts will now consider feedback from the public consultation and refine the proposals. The content of the new regulations will be decided over the coming months.

We intend to run at least two courses a month from July 2018 to help electricians comply with the new 18th edition wiring regulations. Until then, like other electrical training providers, it is only possible for us to offer the 17th edition wiring regulations course.
