Clarkson Evans has been unveiled as the new headline sponsor of Mazda MX-5 racing driver Martyn Canning.

Martyn approached the Gloucester-based company because he knew many of the firm’s electricians and apprentices are keen motorsport fans.

The leading electrical contractor saw the sponsorship opportunity as a way of speeding up its national apprenticeship recruitment drive.

Clarkson Evans will be supporting the racing star during the 2016 BRSCC Mazda MX-5 Championship. The company’s distinctive logo will feature on the door of Martyn’s Mazda MX-5 allowing the company to extend its brand exposure throughout England & Wales.

“I'm very grateful to Clarkson Evans for their support during the 2016 BRSCC Mazda Mx-5 Championship season. With the 8 meetings around the UK we are able to help promote their apprenticeship training program. With a lot of young people watching motorsport we are hoping to catch people's eye and join a fantastic company. I'm hoping to have some good result in my first season on track after moving from National Autograss. That is thanks to my sponsors."

The Mazda MX-5 championship, which takes place across the UK and Europe, will be televised throughout the season on SKY, the internet and on Motors TV, which has an average weekly viewing figure of 83,000.

The Clarkson Evans’ branded car will get its first outing at the Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk on 2 April 2016.

Martyn, who lives in Evesham, is moving up from a successful racing career in National Autograss to the Mazda MX-5 Championship in 2016.

Despite being just 25 years old he has won many titles including Junior National Champion in 2006 at the tender age of sixteen.

Racing Mazda MX-5 MK1s is fast and action-packed racing. There are eight scheduled meetings held over the year at the top racetracks over the UK including Donnington Park, Brands Hatch and Silverstone International.

“We are excited to support Martyn. Many of our apprentices actively support this sport so we are pleased to be sponsoring such an up-and-coming young star. This is a great opportunity to take our brand on the road and straight into the heart of British Motorsport,” said Lindsey Young, HR and Training Director at Clarkson Evans.

Clarkson Evans is currently recruiting apprentices across the UK. For more information and to keep up-to-date with news from Clarkson Evans visit www.clarksonevans.co.uk or follow the company on twitter @clarksonevans
