Oliver Lawrence
Apprentice Electrician

"I enjoy waking up every morning and going to work. There is a great team spirit on site, the morale is always high, and I love working in a team."

Oliver Lawrence struggled for a few years trying to find his perfect career until he finally found it at Clarkson Evans.

Before Oliver joined us he was working up a sweat by helping out in a kitchen. However, he began to feel the pressure of the need to find his dream job after finishing a business studies course at Exeter College.

Oliver said: “Although I knew I didn’t want to work in the catering industry, I realised that I thrived in a fast-paced environment. I thought that the best way to get a similar buzz at work was to get involved in a trade. In that sense, I almost fell into my apprenticeship by accident."

“When I started I was unskilled and I didn’t even know how to use a screwdriver. But whenever I needed help, everyone was willing to teach me and I’m constantly learning. Now when I go home I’m able to do not only the electrics, but other work too. My physical skills have improved dramatically."

“I enjoy waking up every morning and going to work. There is a great team spirit on site, the morale is always high, and I love working in a team because we are all so motivated and we all have the same goal."

“When I complete my apprenticeship I definitely want to become a team leader. I want to be able to build a good team behind me and become one of the highest earning team leaders in the company.”

And Oliver’s advice to anyone looking at applying for an apprenticeship: “It’s such a great opportunity, definitely do it – there’s a great future ahead of you if you do.”
