Clarkson Evans raises the curtain on cinema advertising to help recruit the next generation of appre

Electrical contractor Clarkson Evans is turning to the big screen to help raise awareness of its award-winning apprenticeship programme.

The company is launching its first ever cinema advert in Oxfordshire this week (18 April) in a bid to make more young people aware of its electrical apprenticeships.

The 30-second advert is targeted at people who are disenchanted with their current jobs as well as those looking for a career with long-term progression and earning potential.

“Life’s too short to be stuck in a dead-end job with no prospects for career progression. Our apprenticeships are not just for school leavers but for career changers ready to transfer their skills and embark upon a rewarding, well-paid professional role as an electrician,” said Lindsey Young, HR & Training Director.

Clarkson Evans is committed to training the next generation of electricians by offering around 100 people the opportunity to join its award-winning apprenticeship programme each year. At least 10 apprentices will be recruited in Oxfordshire.

The advert has been timed to coincide with the Easter holidays and the release of action blockbuster Fast & Furious 8.

“Training apprentices is fundamental to the long-term growth of Clarkson Evans and we pride ourselves on attracting and retaining the best talent. Over 70% of our current team leaders and area managers are former apprentices and our Managing Director Nathan Evans started his career with us as an apprentice,” added Mrs Young.

The company took inspiration from its current pool of apprentices to come up with the cinema advert concept which features a disillusioned chef who turns his back on his catering job to train to become an electrician.

“We have former chefs, lifeguards, care workers, dental nurses and landscape gardeners who are now training to become electricians – people in their mid-twenties are clearly willing to embark upon a new career if they believe it has good long-term prospects and excellent earning potential,” said Mrs Young.

Clarkson Evans is currently actively recruiting apprentices in Oxford, Bracknell, Trowbridge and Bristol and vacancies are available throughout its 17-branch network at various times of the year. For more information on how to apply online visit www.clarksonevans.co.uk.

The advert was shot on location with the help of two Gloucestershire businesses – the Old Elm Inn in Churchdown and the Hatherley Manor Hotel in Down Hatherley.

“We are grateful to the Hatherley Manor Hotel for allowing us to use their premises to film our advert – their enthusiastic kitchen staff were a far cry from the disenchanted chef portrayed in the film!” said Mrs Young.
