the early days
The roots of the company go back to 1981 when Steve Evans (now Managing Director) established Evans Electrical. Steve soon decided to specialise in wiring new homes and in the mid 1980s he started to employ apprentices. One of these was Steve Clarkson who joined in 1985.

expansion
The business grew steadily throughout the late 1980s and early to mid 1990s, despite a housing market that was in recession. The two Steves established a partnership called Clarkson Evans in the early 90s and in 1992 moved to our first proper commercial premises. From then on, things really took off and two further moves eventually found us in our present home at the Meteor Business Park.

training centre opens
By 1998 the business employed around 35 people and there was an increasing flow of orders. The main barrier to further expansion was a lack of suitably qualified electricians available for employment so we took the ground-breaking step of setting up our own in-house training centre.

At first this was just a small in-house affair, training a class of 14 apprentices and employing two staff. Today the centre trains around 900 electricians every year for a range of employers and boasts the best facilities in the South West, if not nationally. It has won several awards over the years including a cash prize of £50,000 in 2005 and a Building Services Award in 2006.

regional branches
Our geographical spread continued to expand so in 2004 we opened new branches in Birmingham and Wiltshire to compliment our head office in Gloucester and our branch in Newport, South Wales. And ever-increasing deliveries of electrical materials meant we needed a purpose-built distribution centre.

today
There are now over 300 staff employed by Clarkson Evans and annual turnover is approaching £15m. We wire around 7000 new homes each year in an area stretching from Swansea Bay to Berkshire, and from Staffordshire all the way down to the Salisbury Plain.
