What type of work do Clarkson Evans electricians do?

As we specialise in wiring new homes, all of the work you do would be of this nature.  We structure our workforce into teams of typically two or three staff and if you’re recruited as a fully qualified electrician you’ll most likely join us as a team leader.  This involves managing the team’s output and taking responsibility for typically two or three different sites, liaising directly with site managers, planning ahead and organising who does what within the team on a daily basis.

You’ll have back up and support from an area manager and office-based commercial team whilst also having the freedom (within reason) to organise your own workload.  

How much do electricians get paid?

All of our electricians (team leaders) are paid on price rather than at an hourly rate.  So the more you achieve, the more you earn.  Typically our team leaders earn £500 - £800 per week but at busy times of year our very best team leaders can earn upwards of £1,000 per week [All figures are gross].

We also operate a grading scheme to recognise your efforts and enable you to increase your earnings and benefits as you progress through the company.  For example you could earn a twice yearly bonus of up to 8% of your earnings and increase your holiday allowance from 21 days up to a generous 25 days.  All holidays will be paid at your average earnings.

What are the normal working hours?

Our teams usually meet for breakfast at their branch at around 7am, aiming to arrive on site by 8am.  Finish times depend on when the day’s work is completed so this would typically be between 4pm - 6pm.  On some days it could be later so flexibility is required.  Your normal working days will be Monday to Friday but at busy times you may need to work at the weekend to keep up with build programmes. 

Do I need to be a fully qualified electrician to apply?

When we’re recruiting electricians to be our team leaders we’re looking for a mixture of experience and qualifications, with experience being more important.  Ideally you’ll have achieved NVQ 3 and already have a JIB gold card but if you’ve had many years of experience in the industry and not fully completed your qualifications we can help you do so during the course of employment.   

If you’ve got electrical qualifications that are not backed up by on-the-job experience we won’t be able to consider you for a team leader position and you would need to apply to us through the apprenticeship route.
