Practising
operatives scheme
(NVQ3 for experienced electricians)
about the course: This scheme is designed for
people who are working in the electrical industry and, although
competent, they do not hold an NVQ in Electrotechnical Services.
Successful completion of the scheme leads to
NVQ Level 3 (installation or maintenance), which can be used
to prove competence and gain an industry Skills Card.
The focus is on candidates proving what they
can already do but by adding some training to the programme
it can also be used to enhance knowledge and skills.
pre-requisites:
Candidates
must be:
>
working
in the industry
>
competent
>
able to
provide evidence of current activities or work undertaken
in the previous two years.
we
would expect candidates to be over 25 years of age and to
have gained at least 5 years’ experience in the industry.

Candidates are required to compile a portfolio of evidence to prove competence in various areas including:
>
safe site working
>

course
duration: Normally the scheme takes between 3
and 6 months to complete. The pace of this scheme very much
depends on how quickly the candidate produces evidence so
this timescale can be reduced or increased.
assessment: An individual assessment programme is
designed for each candidate depending on experience and the
evidence available. Normally at least one on-site assessment
is required. Occasionally the AM2 test is used to fill evidence
gaps.
