Managing Director Nathan Evans is going back ‘on the tools’ during National Apprenticeship Week to help promote apprenticeship opportunities at the electrical giant.

Nathan will be working as an ‘apprentice’ alongside electrician Edward Smith to raise awareness of the career progression opportunities within the company.

It’s more than 20 years since Nathan joined Clarkson Evans as an 18-year-old apprentice. After qualifying and running sites for a number of years as a team leader, he moved into an office-based commercial role. Nathan then worked his way up to become a commercial manager before going out on the road in a business development role.

Nathan was promoted to the board in 2011 and took on his present role as Managing Director almost 12 months ago.

“I’m under no illusion that going back ‘on the tools’ as an apprentice working alongside Edward Smith is going to be tough but it will be good to remember the teamwork and camaraderie of working on site,” said Nathan.

“Leaving my warm comfortable office for a day on site will provide me with a whole different perspective on the business and give me the chance to think about our apprenticeship programme and how our new recruits develop lifelong practical skills by working alongside qualified electricians.

“Projected workloads mean we have ambitious plans to recruit a large number of additional apprentices in 2017 and what better time, than during National Apprenticeship Week, to raise awareness of these roles,” added Nathan.

Like all apprentices employed by the company Nathan will begin his day with a free, hearty breakfast before helping his team leader to load the van with materials for the day.

He’ll then work as part of a small team wiring new homes from start to finish. This will include installing cables throughout the house, wiring telephone and TV points and fitting all types of lights, sockets and switches.

Electrical apprentices are being actively recruited in Oxford, Gloucester, Milton Keynes and Trowbridge. In addition the company also has a number of business admin apprentice roles available at its Gloucester head office. For more information visit our careers page.
