Electrical Trainer (Career Change)

Job Title
Electrical Trainer (Career Change)

Electrical Trainer (Career Change) - Exeter
£30,500 starting salary with ‘golden hello’ bonus of £2.5k

If you’re an experienced, fully qualified electrician who thinks it may be time to hang up your pliers, we can offer you the chance to use your knowledge and skills to take the rewarding step of training the next generation of electricians.

As the leading electrical contractor serving the housebuilding sector, we employ over 850 staff and wire over 21,000 new homes a year. We’re committed to tackling the skills shortage in the industry and with our long-established in-house apprenticeship training programme we’re genuinely making inroads. With over 250 apprentices currently being trained across our network of training centres, we are an industry leader not just in wiring new homes but also in developing staff with the right skills to do so.

All of our electrical trainers joined us straight ‘off the tools’ and we’ve supported them as they master the art of passing their knowledge on to groups of apprentices whilst progressing through teaching qualifications. We now have a vacancy for someone to do just that at our centre in Exeter. You’ll be based there but also need to be prepared to spend one or two days a week at one of our other centres.

We’ll provide the coaching you need to deliver the full range of topics covered in an electrical apprenticeship. Within a short space of time you’ll be allocated a group of our apprentices to guide right the way through the classroom delivery part of their four-year programme (our team of assessors will cover the on-site assessments in the workplace).

With the back-up and support of a team of colleagues who’ve taken the same step as you, you might be surprised how quickly you can settle into a role that may be quite different to the practical work you’ve been used to until now.

Salary starts at £30,500 increasing to £36,000 as you gain experience and progress through your teaching qualifications. And we’ll offer ‘golden hello’ bonus payments totalling £2,500 during your first 18 months.

Our staff work a 39-hour week, Monday to Friday, including an early finish on Fridays.  Holiday entitlement starts at 22 days (plus bank holidays), increasing to 26 days with length of service.

Successful applicants with need to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as the Criminal Records Bureau) check before taking up the position.

Please read these instructions carefully before starting your application.
