Regional HR Business Partner

Job Title
Regional HR Business Partner

Branch
Gloucester

Regional HR Business Partner

Competitive salary & company car

As one of the UK’s largest electrical contractors, we’re growing fast and we now employ nearly 1,000 people across the country. Our geographical expansion means it’s time to change the way we deliver HR services to the business by making sure we have effective people management coaching and support in our four regions. This is therefore one of four identical new roles that we’re creating for each region.

Reporting to our Head of HR who is based at our Gloucester head office, you’ll work closely with the managers who oversee our electrical teams in a region covering our Gloucester, Oxford, Milton Keynes and Kettering branches. This is very much a mobile position and typically you’ll need to visit each branch around once a week, as well as sometimes visiting housing development sites where our staff are working.

While you’ll be part of the HR team, forming strong working relationships with regional managers from other functions such as health and safety and quality assurance will be essential.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Partnering with the Regional Heads of Production and Area Managers to deliver tangible business improvement and change management projects aligned to KPIs
  • Supporting area managers with performance management and disciplinary and grievance procedures
  • Taking responsibility for complex ER work in your region
  • Coaching area managers to build their confidence and skills for handling day-to-day HR processes and people management issues
  • Participating in the recruitment of electricians and electrical apprentices
  • Supporting workforce planning, talent development and succession planning
  • Maintaining effective two-way communication with our workforce to support the implementation of HR initiatives, maintain high levels of staff engagement and convey insights to the head office HR team

Key requirements:

  • MCIPD qualified
  • Significant experience as an HR Business Partner in a blue-collar service or construction environment, including working with apprentices or inexperienced workers
  • An in-depth knowledge of employment law and track record of mitigating risk
  • Effective communicator with coaching experience
  • Resilience plus calmness and professionalism under pressure
  • A flexible approach and dedication to providing high levels of service for internal customers
  • Driven, self-starter

Working hours will be based on a 39-hour week, Monday to Friday. Early starts are the norm in our industry, so this definitely isn’t a position for a ‘night owl’. You can expect to be at one of our branches for 7.00am and this might sometimes mean staying locally the night before, depending how early you’re willing to set your alarm clock.

A bit more about us…

Maybe you’ve heard of us, maybe you haven’t. What you may not know is that we’re the biggest electrical contractor in the UK serving the housebuilding sector. We’ve got 21 branches and last year alone, we wired more than 24,000 new homes. With a booming order book and an enviable apprentice training academy, we’ve got ambitious plans for expansion into the north and the east of the country. We’re the contractors of choice for the largest and most respected house builders in the UK and in our 39 years in business, we’ve picked up more than a few awards.
